Physical Education - GCSE
This Course is taught during the Fourth and Fifth Form and is available to all boys at the school who show an interest and aptitude for sport. Candidates should be actively participating in school teams and preferably be competing in clubs outside of School. Students will have an interest in and will develop knowledge of a variety of aspect of sport including; human movement, skill development and contemporary issues in sport. We follow the OCR Games Syllabus.
Course Breakdown
Students cover a variety of sports during the two year course. The focus is on skill development, team play and tactical awareness.
Students complete one piece of written coursework which is worth 10% of the final grade. Students are required to analyse an individuals' sporting performance, identifying strengths and weaknesses and then complete a training programme to benefit the performer.
50% of the final mark is awarded for performance in four chosen sporting activities.
40% of the final mark is obtained from a written exam. The main topics of study for the theoretical component of the course include: Factors affecting Participation and Performance and the Relationship between Health, Fitness and Practical Activity.
