City of London School Parents’ Bursary Scheme

The CLS Parents’ Bursary Scheme provides financial support for boys with the talent but not the means to attend the school. It’s an entirely voluntary scheme, set up by parents ten years ago it now acts as a model for many other schools. We
currently support five boys at the school and are working towards raising funds for a sixth boy.

Our aim is to have as many parents as possible donating regular small amounts – many parents donate around £20 per term but any amount is very welcome. All your donations are matched by the City of London Corporation and usually attract tax relief, this means that a donation of just £100 a year from a higher rate tax payer is worth £256 to the scheme. So just a little can make a big difference and
contributing to the scheme really can change lives.

Here’s what Joseph Ataman (pictured) former Deputy Head Boy and bursary recipient had to say:

“Before I crossed the threshold of the City of London School, eagerly greeted by a handshake from the head boy, the very idea of going to University seemed alien. Today, with just a few days left until I take up my place as a choral scholar at Cambridge University I know that it is to the school’s scholarship programme that I owe my thanks .It has been a privilege to be a member of such an inspirational community and an honour to have had the opportunity to give something back in my last years to the school that has given me so much. I have cherished every day of my time at City and I cannot thank enough all those supporters of CLS who, through their generosity and commitment, have made this possible.”

The Parents’ Bursary Scheme helps the school to reflect the cosmopolitan profile of London and the wider world and helps to make CLS a uniquely special place to educate our sons – ultimately all the pupils benefit from this.

The Parents’ Bursary Scheme Committee would like to thank parents who already donate. We hope that some of you may choose to increase your donations. We also hope that those of you who don’t already give will consider doing so. And we look forward to welcoming all our supporters new and old to our annual reception in  May.
