Instrumental Music Lessons
We arrange instrumental lessons for boys wiith our visiting instrumental staff (peripatetic teachers), subject to their availability. This is available in the following instruments:
Piano, Organ, Violin, Viola, Cello, Double-Bass, Recorder, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Saxophone, Bassoon, Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Classical Guitar, Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar, Percussion and Singing.
The cost is currently £190 per term (ten lessons), paid to the School, who then pay the teachers, depending on the lessons they have taught / covered. It is expected that pupils, when competent, will take part in the appropriate school ensemble relating to their chosen study.
Senior School pupils who are in examination years will be assigned a fixed time which does not conflict with their academic studies. Boys in all other years are placed on a rota and then withdrawn from normal lessons. This is important and means that the same academic lesson is not missed each week.
The School possesses a small stock of instruments that are available on loan, although parents are encouraged to provide pupils with their own instruments as soon as possible. Priority will be given to beginners and reviewed annually. If there are no instruments available we will put you in touch with a local musical instrument supplier who can give you advice on hire/buy schemes. Before lessons can begin however, the Director of Music must receive the 'Music Lessons Request Form' which is accessed by clicking on the file at the bottom of this page.
Notice needs to be given in order to terminate lessons. The notice period is by half-term for the following (i.e. notice needs to be given by the May half-term, so that cancellation takes place for the Autumn Term). Notice must be given to the Music Administrator, in writing, or via email (musicadmin@clsb.org.uk). Requests for cancellations will be acknowledged via email, or in writing.
This is to cover the period of fair warning of changes set down in the terms and conditions followed by the full-time and visiting instrumental staff. Absence from lessons due to illness can only be made-up by the teacher if they know in advance. The School is not responsible for informing teachers.
If I can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me and I will be happy to help.
