Since opening in 1993, the shop has developed into an important part of CLS life. A part-time manager & a team of volunteer boys run the shop which posts a small profit each year. Author visits & signings are frequent. Recently, authors such as Robert Muchamore and Julia Golding have visited to talk to City boys.

What Do We Sell?

Books (over 1500 titles), Magazines,  Stationery,  School Recommended Calculators,  Mobile Phone Credit, Book Tokens, Stamps, Photocopy Cards,  School Ties, Games, Student ID Cards and Sheet Music.

Our range of books covers anything from fiction/fantasy and classics, to non-fiction, including revision guides, school textbooks and dictionaries.

Accounts

Every pupil can open a Green Card Account. Parents/Guardians can deposit a sum into an account for their child to spend on the products listed above. This reduces the need for boys to carry excess cash around. Also, boys will have credit with the bookshop should they need books or equipment in an emergency (i.e. an exam). Further deposits can be made as necessary, by cheque, cash or credit card.

Who Uses the Shop?

As well as pupils at City, staff and parents are welcome to come in and browse. Many parents make use of Bookshop services to order books for both business and personal use. The shop takes credit cards, so orders can be phoned in and then picked up by boys or posted out. The Carpenter Bookshop also undertakes the bulk of the textbook ordering for the City of London School. Local businesses in the City of London also use the shop for bulk purchases, as do other departments within the City of London Corporation.
