THE ISLAMIC SOCIETY
The Islamic Society is perhaps one of the busiest and most open societies at CLS. Daily Zuhr prayers take place at lunchtime in room 316 with Friday Jumu’ah prayers-led by senior boys – in the squash courts or Fencing Salle so come along to pray one of your five a day. Each Tuesday, fascinating discussions take place over about ten to twenty Qur’anic verses with prizes on offer for completing quizzes. Anybody can come along.
During the Five Assemblies, the Muslim one takes place in the Junior School Hall under Mr Heminway’s guidance with senior boys (not always Muslims) speaking. The topics often generate much interest and it is not rare for some debate to be stirred. Sometimes, notable speakers have been hosted such as convert Br. Abdul Haqq who spoke on “Thugs in Islam”.
Our Eid parties are very popular, being attended by great numbers. Other activities carried out by the Islamic Society include charity work (with donations totalling in the hundreds each year) and editing of the website and Facebook page. More information about upcoming events can be found at the notice board, online or by contacting Dr Khand.
