ICT Resources

At City of London School we strongly believe in the benefits and enhanced learning that can be achieved through the use of ICT in secondary education. A reflection of this can be seen in the wide range and easy accessibility of our IT-based resources for pupils and staff.

Every classroom in the School is fitted with a dedicated teacher PC, and most of them also have full multimedia facilities, which comprise of an interactive tablet monitor connected to a projector and speakers.

The School currently hosts three purpose-built ICT suites, each featuring 28 PCs with flat-panel monitors. We are also equipped to provide additional class-size sets of wireless laptops, which can be delivered on request to any room in the building. These laptops connect to our network wirelessly, transforming any room into a fully capable ICT suite.

The Modern Languages Department has its own Digital Language Laboratory, which uses Sanako software. This facilitates direct and discrete verbal communication between the teacher and students, and can be used to arrange groups and pairings for oral and listening practice.

Our Music department features a newly installed Music Technology Suite with 28 of the very latest Apple iMacs which each have 20” widescreen displays. These state of the art computers are fitted with midi keyboards and professional audio interfaces, enabling professional-level music composition and engineering facilities.

In addition to these resources, the School also provides several open access areas, where students can continue to work at break or lunchtime, and our Library is equipped with 24 computers which can be booked for school work.

Black & white laser printers are available in every computer room, and many rooms also feature a colour laser printer. We have a number of scanners installed around the building and they are available for use by pupils.

Our Network

Each computer is connected to the School network, which provides users with secure file storage, internet access and email. Upon joining the School, each student and member of staff is provided with his or her own personal user account. This account entitles them to use the School’s network for file storage, internet access, and provides them with a personal email account. (Note all internet access and activity is moderated and protected by our Websense filtering service.)

In addition to internet access, the school also subscribes to a wide range of invaluable online resources, such as the JSTOR Journal Archives, Oxford Reference, National Biography & Dictionary Resources, and the History Today online archive.

On-Site Support

To ensure the smooth running of all our ICT equipment, the School has a dedicated team of three full-time I.T. support staff, who are always on hand to respond rapidly to any issue that should arise, whether software or hardware- based.
