Football
Football is the School's major field sport. It is played during both the Autumn and Spring Terms.
City of London School travels to its own private playing fields at Grove Park in South East London. The five full size pitches and plentiful training facilities are widely recognised as being amongst the best on the Independent School Circuit. The schools pitches are used on an annual basis to host finals of regional Cup competitions.
A full programme of Regional and National cup competitions is entered for all age groups. CLS teams, in the last five years, have frequented many of the competition final stages. In 2010 the 1st XI won the Bromley and District Schools Cup, held at Selhurst Park, reached the last 16 of the National Independent Schools FA Cup (ISFA) and the semi-finals of the London Independent Schools' Cup and Trinty Schools Cup. The U15s reached the quarter finals of the ISFA Cup and the semi final of the Bromley and District Cup. The U13s made the ISFA Cup semi final and the U12s, the Bromley Schools Cup Final.
Coaching and matches take place during the School’s games afternoons: First Form on Friday, Second Form on Monday, Third Form on Thursday, Fourth Form on Tuesday and Fifth and Sixth Forms on Wednesday. CLS also play a number of fixtures on Saturday mornings with all boys arriving back and being released from School by midday.
In the Lower and Middle Schools regular A, B and C team fixtures occur against both Preparatory and Secondary Schools from both the Independent and State sectors. CLS also annually hosts the very popular Independent Schools six-a-side tournament for Second Form boys.
In the Senior School six u18 teams play a full programme of fixtures on Wednesday afternoons throughout both terms. These players also have the opportunity to attend a pre-season camp that has been held at some of the top sporting Universities in the country including Loughborough and Bath.
Additional team training sessions take place each week on site at school. Senior footballers attend gym training and all boys are encouraged to improve fitness through use of training programmes in the schools' gym.
Football is thriving at City of London School both in team and non-team environments. A combination of committed staff, professional coaches and enthusiastic talented boys has transformed CLS, over the last ten years, into a significant force on the Independent School Football Circuit.
