The curriculum

The curriculum is subject to constant review, and government policy changes may be made even during the currency of this webpage. In particular the implications of the National Curriculum and its effects on public examinations are being closely monitored; our policy is to implement those elements best suited to our needs whilst taking advantage of our independence from statutory requirements.

There are 40 teaching periods in the week, each of 40 minutes duration. All boys have three afternoon periods each week for Games, in addition to the periods for curricular P.E. and swimming.

Each tutor group normally has two assemblies and three 20 minute tutorial periods each week. Part of this time is sometimes used for a programme of personal and social education, usually led by the tutor but sometimes using external specialist help.

Year Groups at the School have the following names;

  • Old Grammar (Year 6)
  • First Form (Year 7)
  • Second Form (Year 8)
  • Third Form (Year 9)
  • Fourth Form (Year 10)
  • Fifth Form (Year 11)
  • Junior Sixth Form (Year 12)
  • Senior Sixth Form (Year 13)
