Dates of Future Camps and Events 2010


Dear Parent(s),
I would like to take this opportunity to update the list of planned CCF trips, an * denotes those trips which all or specific members of the 3rd and 4th forms are expected to attend, all other trips are entirely voluntary. An administrative instruction giving full details and contact telephone numbers will be issued prior to each trip. Pictures taken on previous trips may be viewed on the CCF area of the school web site.


January 5th – 11th 2010

Contingent Camp to be based at a ski lodge near Sonthoffen in Bavaria.  Five days down hill skiing instruction in the Bavarian and  Austrian Alps.  The cost is expected to be £595, to include accommodation, air fare, ski hire, lift passes, ski instructors and insurance.


*February 12th – 16th  

Army Section Camp to be held at Longmoor, Hampshire. The trip is designed to continue with the field based sections of the APC syllabus.  Advanced proficiency training will also take place.  Our primary aim this year is to convert to the new issue rifle.
RN section will undertake RYA Power Boat Training based at the Sea Cadet Centre Welsh Harp. 
RAF Section Camp will be based on an RAF Station with Air Experience Flying taking place at RAF Benson.  In order to accommodate the AEF the RAF section camp will run from 16.45h Thursday 11th until 17.00h Monday 15th February

*Annual Inspection Wednesday 17th March, 10.30 – 13.00

This takes place at school and is an ideal opportunity to see just what your son gets up to on the various trips; all parents are encouraged to attend.  An information sheet will be issued nearer the date.

 

April  12th – 20th

The Army Section Annual Camp to be held near Penhale, Cornwall.  This camp has central heating and all modern amenities; boys will be accommodated in dormitory style rooms.  The primary aim of the camp is APC and advanced APC syllabus training.  It is intended to arrange for a day at a theme park or adventure activity and a day of paint ball games, all to be included in the camp fee of £80.

 

July 2nd – 8th  

The Contingent summer adventure-training trip is to Bavaria.  A full administrative instruction will be forwarded to all those expressing an interest.  It is intended to offer the following topics – Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expeditions from bronze to gold standard, waterskiing, high ropes and archery.  The cost is expected to be £325 to include all air fares, accommodation, equipment hire, instructors and insurance.

 

August 23rd – September 6th

We will be returning to America for the main summer trip this year.   We intend to explore some of the 10,000 thermal wonders of Yellowstone Park.  Yellowstone was America’s first national park, founded in 1872 and is larger than the whole of Wales.  Sights of particular interest include “Old Faithfull” which blasts water 130 feet into the air more than 20 times a day and “The Grand Canyon of Yellowstone” with its Lower Falls cascading water some 308 feet, twice the height of Niagra Falls.  We will also be spending time in the Grand Teton park as well as a 3 day stop over in New York on the way home.  The cost is expected to be £1200 to include all transport, accommodation etc.


*October 8th  to 10th

Introduction to camp life for the 3rd Form to be held near Folkestone, Kent. This camp is intended to allow new members of the Contingent to learn about camp living, how to wear their uniform and rank structure, in a friendly environment.  The trip is only open to members of the 3rd Form, who are required to attend.   A video evening is normally provided.

*November 18th – 21st    

Army Section Camp to be held near Crowborough, Sussex. This camp has dormitory style accommodation with a central cookhouse providing three hot meals a day. The trip is designed to allow boys to progress through the training syllabus. It is hoped that the RN & RAF Sections will spend some time with their affiliated units undergoing specific section training. The RN Section Camp will be based on HMS Bristol, Portsmouth.  The locations and timings for the RAF Section will be explained in their administrative instruction.
