Biology

Teaching at all levels is based on a practical and investigative approach. The syllabus gives an introduction to the major areas of Biology, including modern issues such as human influences on the environment, the use of hormones in food production and genetic engineering. Those who take Biology in the “triple award” IGCSE also include a more detailed introduction in concepts which underpin the subject, and the basics of Biotechnology.

At AS and A levels we will follow the OCR syllabus. This allows our many aspiring medics to study the human body, in health and disease, in some depth. The course also includes aspects of genetic manipulation for those interested in modern biotechnology. The OCR syllabus includes a practical component which is externally set, but marked internally, and contributes 20% to the overall mark used to determine AS or A2 grades. There is also a compulsory field course.
